As soon as you cross the railway line in front of the gate, you feel the aurora of an IIT. For a moment, you forget all the efforts and hardships that you had undergone during your JEE days. You thank god for providing you an opportunity to be a part of this institute, and for allowing to meet with like minded people in such a large number and of such a cadre.
All this comes to an end by the SIS Guard, who pulls you off the lane and asks you for your hall name, and permits the vehicle an entry into the campus. You feel like beating the shit out of him, for intervening in one of the best moments of your life, but you hurry it up, for you still are not satisfied with the fact that you are the student of one of the IITs. You want to reach your Hall ASAP, and want to meet your roommate, who probably is burning under the anguish of the same. You pass the Main Grounds and tell your parents - "Mummy, life ho toh aisi!", and your mother, ecstatic to the very core doesn't have words to express her joy. She's probably the most happy person the day you clear JEE with a good rank, even more than you yourselves.
Moving on, you arrive at the Hall, and first thing you feel good about is the greenery and the well managed park. The greenery sways all the thoughts of your mind, and brings you out of the mental turmoil that whether you had taken the right decision of taking IITK over IITX. You then meet your "Baap" or the Student Guide, who at the very moment tells you not to call him "bhaiya" and to address him by his name only, hence, abolishing the age difference between the two. You do the paperwork, and move to your room.
First thought! Fuck! Is this where am I supposed to be living after clearing JEE? "I am an IITian now" - You say these words again to yourselves, for you had dreamt of living in a modernised and well furnished room, and lo, here you are standing in a room wherein the fan doesn't run at full speed and the plaster is comes off the wall. But you accept this and move on.
Next shocker comes in the form of Washrooms. I would not like to give a full account, in view of maintaining the decency, but in short they are pathetic, and for someone who's never used a public washroom, they are indeed nightmarish.
Coming back onto our main agenda, you then shop for the items in need, depending on what you brought here. You go for the dinner in the big mess-hall and you are surprised by the food (It's supposed to be the first day experience). Your parents (esp. your mom) get satisfied by the quality and leave you for the upcoming event (An informal session with your baap). The details of the event would be covered in the next post.
So, that sums up (almost) for activities and memories of the first day. I personally loved it, and this day is registered as a one of the finest days of my life. More coming!
